An impressive sight greeted attendees in the form of the Heritage F1, Betsafe liveried F1 car in the foyer, along with a vintage WW2 army officer’s motorbike thanks to Duke of London.
Just around the corner stood the sponsorboard, proving popular throughout the evening as the assembled guests marked the occasion.
Our title sponsor RED Digital Cinema joined the evening with their new WEAPON camera, giving advice and demos. Alongside the bespoke festival trophies, handcrafted in England, winners of the Grand Prix Award received free rental of the new WEAPON camera, and winners of the Best Student Film, an exclusive 1:1 DSMC2 Camera Demonstration Day with RED Digital Cinema's studio in Hollywood, LA.
Films entered have their origins spread across all seven continents and without the tireless effort of the global automotive film making community, the festival wouldn’t be the huge success it is. For which the organisers give their praise and thanks.
After a VIP meet and greet session, where industry professionals could network and relax, the shortlisted films were viewed on the UK’s largest sports screen in glorious high definition with spectacular sound. Champagne sponsor Piper Heidsieck supplied free bottles for the VIP tables and boxes, while our host and affable friend, Bryn Musselwhite took to the stage to keep the evening in order. As a warm welcome to the guests, The JazzCats played jazz music, and then car movie inspired jazz stings for each trophy acceptance during the awards.
Next up we had the Best Documentary Film sponsored by DJI. Gatebil EP1 took the win, with the entrants flying in from Norway to attend the event. Festival judge and Gumball 3000 founder Maximillion Cooper joined the stage to present the award.
Best Journalism Film sponsored by Castle Combe went to TURBOMETAL MOTORBLOG from Hungary. Up against some big names such as Top Gear, Chris Harris on CARS and GTChannel, the Hungarians put up a big fight! Castle Combe gave away an exclusive day of filming at their race circuit. Turbometal will have full use of the track for both static and action shots, we hope they make use of it and send over the film!
Best Commercial Film sponsored by MSS Ltd, giving away a one years retained client contract, H&S telephone support and 5% off cover rates. For the first time in London Motor Film Festival history there was a tie in the results, the winning films were Black Badge by Rolls-Royce / Beth Wightman, and Master Plan by Jaguar / Spark44.
Best Event Film sponsored by ExclusiveGP was awarded to Finally 18 from Porsche / Kingdom Creative.
Best Student Film, sponsored by RED Digital Cinema had a great selection of films from some very talented students. Rocket was the judges’ choice and the film picked up it’s second trophy of the evening, as well as the prize of an exclusive day of training at the RED Digital Cinema European headquarters at Pinewood Studios! This beautiful film is really cleaning up at the moment, congratulations on the Oscar win at the Student Academy Awards!
Best Creative Film sponsored by Chauffeur Centre proved to be a competitive category! The Mercurial SuperflyV film from Nike / Intro took the win with it’s slick animation.
A new category for 2016, the Community Choice Award was hosted online, with users submitting and voting for films via Car Throttle. BADASS LATVIAN by Robyworks took the win, after over 10,000 voters made their choices.
Best Cinematography went to Black Badge, a beautifully shot Rolls-Royce commercial. We were very saddened to discover on the night that Marcus Waterloo, the Director of Photography for this film had recently passed away. This news came as a real shock, and our hearts go out to his family, friends and loved ones.
Best Sound was our second draw between two films. The winners were Joyride by Ozan Biron & Legendary by SIXTYSEVEN PICTURES. These two films featured incredible sound design and both very worthy of a win. Joyride then went onto also pick up the Best Editing trophy.
The Grand Prix award, the most prestigious award of the festival, sponsored by RED Digital Cinema was presented by Mike Grieve, Sales Director for RED in Europe, Middle East & Asia. Joyride by Ozan Biron took a third win in a row, a commercial for Pennzoil featuring some very high octane action. Alongside the bespoke trophy featuring a V12 conrod, machined metals and carbon fibre, RED will also provide the prize of free rental of their new WEAPON camera system (we’re jealous!).
